Water spots form when water evaporates from a surface. Minerals naturally present in water can’t evaporate, so are left behind. These minerals are typically white or gray in color, and the heavier the mineral content in your water, the more opaque the spot will be. When water is left untreated, this mineral deposit will be very visible and extremely difficult to remove.
A traditional softener works by removing the hard water minerals of calcium and magnesium from water, and replacing them with sodium. Sodium is colorless in small quantities, so when salt-softened water evaporates from a surface, the sodium spots left behind are usually not visible. The absence of water spotting on surfaces is often seen as a sign that a traditional softener is working, and it can be a very nice side benefit indeed. This isn’t always the case, though. We’ve heard from countless customers, usually those with extremely hard water, who have severe water spotting even with a properly functioning salt-based water softener. Unfortunately for these customers, the sodium build-up left by the water softener is even more difficult to clean away than untreated hard water spots!
The EasyWater No-Salt Conditioner doesn’t remove the calcium or magnesium from water. Rather, it works by physically changing the minerals in water to keep them from adhering to surfaces. This means that wherever water is flowing, there will be no mineral build-up at all – pipes, plumbing and appliances will be free of scale build-up. Where water evaporates from a surface, however, the minerals will be left behind in the form of a water spot, and they will be more visible than the sodium spots that traditional softeners leave behind. What you’ll notice is that these water spots will be much easier to clean than spots that result from either untreated hard water or salt-softened water, so while you’ll still have to clean your home as you always would, the cleaning process will require much less elbow grease and fewer harsh chemical cleaners.
